About The Artist

He Stared At Me

Julie January is a thirty-four year-old freako from Kentucky who has known she was an artist since about the age of seven, when her elementary school art teacher, Mr. Fogley, whispered in her ear “you are an artist”. However, for many years, Ms. January abandoned the idea of pursuing a career in art, and, instead, obtained her Bachelor’s degree in sociology from Eastern Kentucky University in 2007.

Unfortunately, by the time she graduated from school, Ms. January’s health deteriorated to the point that she was unable to work, causing her to apply for disability. Eventually, in 2011, after six weeks of spending around 11 hours a day vomiting uncontrollably, Ms. January was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY, where, after about three and a half days and more than 42 vials of blood, Ms. January was given the preliminary diagnosis of Celiac Disease. Since being given the diagnosis and making the required lifestyle changes, Ms. January’s health has improved greatly–though, due to the effects of stress on individuals born with Celiac, she is still unable to work in her field of interest.

And so, Ms. January has returned to her first and truest love: art. Over the past year and a half, Ms. January has been rebuilding her portfolio, and hopes (eventually) to start selling her digital art, drawings, and mixed media pieces.
